6 dangerous places for swimming and bathing

Swimming is a great way to relax on vacation during the hot summer days. But be careful when you want to do that. Here are the ten deadliest tourist destinations where bathing is not recommended, as chosen by AOL Travel News website.

Queensland, Australia

In Queensland waters you can find the whole army of dangerous and poisonous marine animals. Octopus, poisonous shells, cubic jellyfish, scorpion fish ... are just some of them. Of all these, the most dangerous one is the jellyfish - about 100-200 people die each year from jellyfish burns. World’s most dangerous jellyfish live in these waters. Some of them can reach a length up to a few feet and many beaches in the summer are closed because of them. Do not swim if you see warning that jellyfish are close and try to have special clothes which can prevent the jellyfish burns. Or simply - do not go swimming.

Plaza Bolinas, California

Bolinas beach is a paradise for surfers, but also it is a part of the infamous "Red Triangle". This place is one of the main feeding grounds of great white sharks. These well-known marine predators can be seen from the beach and when they hunt seals at sea. The chance of being attacked by a shark is very small, but they can dramatically increase if you decide to swim at the beach Bolinas. Prevention is not to swim at dusk, dawn or at night. Never swim alone and do not enter the water if you have bleeding wound.

Amazon basin

Apart from piranhas, caimans and electric eels, one of the main reasons why you should not swim in the Amazon is called "toothpick pish". This small freshwater catfish has a nasty habit of being drawn into the male sex organ, or any body cavity. Prevention is not to swim with an bleeding wound and to carry extra underwear below your swim suit.

Gulf of Mexico, USA

Apart from the catastrophic oil spills, Gulf of Mexico is also home to some very unpleasant creatures. One of the deadliest snakes on the continent lives in these waters. Let it bite you - and you'll be dead in less than two hours. Prevention is not to swim beneath the branches of trees. Your move may force the snake to fall on you.

Victoria Falls, Zambia

The most dangerous place is not the 328 feet waterfall itself. "Devil's Swimming Pool" is the perfect place for suicide swimmers because this natural pool lies on the edge of the waterfall, and a little piece of rock divides the swimmers from falling down the waterfall and certain death.

Kao Sok National Park, Thailand

Before you decide to go camping in this national park, ask someone for advice! The area is full of dangerous animals, much more than naive tourists can imagine. The enormous size millipedes, sharks, dangerous leeches, giant mosquitoes and poisonous caterpillars are living at this place. Leech bite is largely unavoidable, and for the prevention it is advised that you smoke a cigarette? Although smoking is extremely dangerous and harmful, in this national park that it can serve as a shield from the leeches who hate it. If a leech gets you, wet the tobacco and rub the leech with it and it should back down. Whatever you do, avoid removing it by force because you will irritate it and it will release its poison.

The World’s 5 Most Amazing Balanced Stones

Earth may be one of the most geologically active planets in the solar system, but don’t tell that to these 10 brazenly oblivious balanced stones. Poised between inertial stability and the relentless force of gravity, these rock-steady rocks maintain a precarious balance between soil and sky.

Balanced Rock, Colorado, USA

The huge balanced rock known as, er, Balanced Rock can be found in the Garden of the Gods, a Registered National Natural Landmark located near Pike’s Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The rock looms over a paved access road that provides an excellent view – hopefully, not the last view an unlucky driver ever sees.

The photo above highlights the layers of sandstone that make up Balanced Rock while accentuating the narrow base that has weathered away over the eons, partially freeing the boulder of harder red sandstone from its imprisoning matrix of softer stone.

Balancing Rock, Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada

Balancing Rock in Digby, Nova Scotia, is a 30-odd foot high spire of columnar basalt that has gradually eroded out from the cliff face over countless years. The town of Digby has lately built an infrastructure of railings and walkways so that access to this striking phenomenon of nature is now much safer – both for tourists and for the rock itself.

According to Wally Hayes, a first-time visitor to Balancing Rock, “I was even more awestruck when I approached for a closer view and could look under the rock through a narrow horizontal crack and see the ocean beyond. The rock column didn’t appear to have much attachment to base rock on which it stood. Not only that, part of the base protruded out from the supporting rock. It looked like a pencil standing upright, half on and half off the edge of a table top. But this was not pencil, rather many tons of solid rock.”

Idol Rock, Brimham Moor, North Yorkshire, UK

A number of oddly shaped and curiously balanced rocks dot a 50-acre expanse of Brimham Moor in North Yorkshire, England. One of the most outstanding – from a balanced rock point of view – is the so-called Idol Rock. Estimated to weight around 200 tons, Idol Rock balances its enormous weight atop a comparatively tiny, pyramidal stone upon which frighteningly high pressures are being expended.

Idol Rock and its companion Brimham Rocks, which include The Sphinx, The Watchdog, The Camel, The Turtle, and The Dancing Bear, can be viewed at the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The UK’s National Trust oversees the area and admittance is free.

El Torcal de Antequera, Andalucia, Spain

El Torcal Nature Reserve, situated in the mountains south of Antequera, Spain, features a plethora of karst limestone rock formations that typically feature tall, tapering spires of rock combined with horizontal weathering patterns. The result of this combination is often expressed in huge “flapjack stacks” that are actually more stable than they appear.

The karst stone towers of El Torcal de Antequera have evolved terraces of limestone over which tourists can ascend like stairs in order to get up close & personal with the rocks. Climbing further is NOT recommended, however – Darwin has provided enough examples in the reserve without your becoming another one!

Kjeragbolten, Norway

Kjeragbolten is a 5 square meter (roughly 15 sq ft) rock that his wedged itself in a crevasse between two gigantic rocks on Kjerag mountain, Norway. It’s not your typical, top-heavy balanced rock by any means but that’s not to say that Kjeragbolten is at perfect rest – just ask Aron Ralston, whose arm was trapped by a similarly wedged boulder in Utah’s Blue John Canyon, requiring him to take desperate measures to free himself.

Unlike Ralston’s nemesis in an underground canyon, Kjeragbolten is lodged high up on Kjerag. How high? Those who are brave enough to walk across the boulder (and yes, this is allowed) can easily view the valley floor about 1,000 meters (over 3,000 feet) below. For sheepish hikers especially, the admonition “don’t look down” was never so appropriate.

Teen Breaks Up With Teacher Who Left Family For Her

MODESTO, Calif. -- A Northern California teen who made national news when she and her high school teacher moved in together says she has broken off the relationship following allegations that he sexually abused another student.

Hooker, 41, was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually abusing a different student more than a decade ago.

After being booked on one count of oral copulation with a minor, he made a brief court appearance during which a judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Powers and Hooker moved in together in February, with Powers dropping out of James Enochs High School in Modesto and Hooker quitting his teaching job there and leaving his wife and three children.

The two appeared on a number of national talk shows and in interviews, and maintained they didn't have a sexual relationship until she turned 18. But police are still investigating whether there was inappropriate contact before that.

During Saturday's interview with ABC, Powers said she had "lost everything for this guy."

"I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn't agree with me," she said.

Meanwhile, the teen's mother, Tammie Powers, said that after Hooker was arrested, she helped her daughter move out of the small apartment the two shared.

"She is safe, and I'm glad of that, and I'm elated that he's in custody," Tammie Powers told the newspaper.

Hooker was released from the Stanislaus County Jail after posting $50,000 bail, the newspaper reported.
